Reclaiming VAT on transactions prior to VAT registration

One of the important considerations when setting up a company is whether you need to be registered for VAT. Sometimes the decision can be forced as the company reaches the compulsory registration threshold, or alternatively a company may voluntarily register. Either way, there is a chance that the decision will not be immediate; the company may trade or make some transactions before VAT registration is completed.

Offering shares after company registration

One of the main benefits that registering a limited company has over operating as a sole trader is the possibility of using shares as a method to raise capital for the business. This is often an attractive option to the owners of the business, as it provides a route to raise finance for growth and expansion, without increasing their own investment. Although this may offer a viable source of growth for the company, there are a number of considerations that must be accounted for should the company seek funding in this manner.

New Year’s Resolution – Start a Business

Happy New Year from Wisteria Formations!

We hope you have had an enjoyable festive periood, and are looking forward to a propserous 2012!

Traditionally, the New Year is a time where people will make resolutions: to change, to improve, to grow and to take a chance. For many, this opportunity comes in the form of starting their own business and being their own boss.

Setting up a company couldn’t be easier with our 10-step application process, with the limited company one of the most popular vessels through which to operate a small business. This structure of business offers you the benefits of a separate legal identity, and therefore limited liability. This simply means that as the owner, you are only liable for your investment in shares – your personal assets are completely separate and protected if you act legally.

In addition, the limited company could provide an opportunity to turn your hobby into a career; or a chance to grow your sole trader business. Many people associate this structure with size, prestige, image and reliability. Company formation can often be seen as the possibility to take your business to the next level.

So if you’re looking for a new path for your business, or want to take the start-up chance, then make company formation your New Year’s Resolution.

Wishing you a successful 2012!
